Hometown Story

Image
Somewhere in the small corner of North-Eastern Arkansas is a little town that goes by the name of Paragould , Arkansas. This town had the privilege of being known as my, Lucas Bennett, hometown. Paragould is filled with history, stories, and facts from here to Ten Buck Too. One of the most famous things about Paragould is their intense rivalry between the two high schools in town. Those schools being Greene County Tech and Paragould High School. Growing up here it was hostile territory anytime somebody brought up Greene County Tech being that I went to Paragould. The emotions towards each other boil over into flat out hatred.  During my time at Paragould , from a young age they engrave this rivalry into you. You bleed, sweat, and cry Wreck Tech. Every time we played them in football, basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, etc we got hyped. Pep rallies were a staple of Paragould High School. When it came down to the game, win or lose, words were going to be exchanged, objects were goi

Blog I’m critiquing:  https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2023/2/24/23613352/russell-wilson-pete-carroll-fired-seahawks-broncos-trade-sean-payton I find this topic very interesting due to the fact of hindsight. If this is true, Wilson, who was later traded to the Denver Broncos before the season began, had one of the worst seasons of his career. The Broncos would miss the playoffs, with many of his teammates turning on Wilson. While, Pete Carroll would coach a Seahawks team, that was written off as a projected lottery team, into the playoffs. While reviving quarterback, Geno Smith’s, career. I also am intrigued by the thought he brings up about how what if the other coach that Wilson wanted was, newly acquired by the Broncos, head coach Sean Payton.

Blog I’m critiquing:  https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2023/2/24/23613377/chris-boucher-free-throw-line-dunk-video-raptors This is interesting article concept with it being so rare. Here, they talk about how Chris Boucher may have had the longest in game dunk of all time. The dunk occurred when Boucher leaped from just inside the free throw line in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans. I like the concept of this because you have to be eagle eyed to notice little details like this. The verbs used to describe this are very beneficial as well comparing Boucher to a bird with the way he soared through the air.

Nature’s Unpredictability Nature has always been a fascination of those with a sense of wonder. Those with a sense of exploring there surroundings have seeked out nature as a vessel because of its unknown. I have fallen into that category. Ever since I was a little kid, I just remember being outside, finding animals, fishing, climbing trees, and just looking for stuff.  I learned from a young age nature is beautiful. Butterflies, water, the sky, furry animals, all examples of the things beautiful about nature.  I also learned that nature is unpredictable. I never knew what’s in the water on the other side of that hook. I never knew what was gonna be under that rock. You never know what your going to find in those woods.  Unpredictability can be a good thing in nature. Who would’ve originally thought that something so pretty like a butterfly would’ve started out being a caterpillar at first glance.  Unpredictability can also be a bad thing. There can be dangerous animals underneath th

The Blog I’m critiquing:  https://www.mmafighting.com/2023/2/26/23615918/tommy-fury-beats-jake-paul-by-split-decision-in-back-and-forth-battle-over-8-rounds?_gl=1*j3h2dj* One thing I quickly picked up on is how they treated the fight between a YouTuber (Jake Paul) and Professional Boxer brother (Tommy Fury) like a big deal. After three postponements of this fight the fight finally occurred on Sunday. The terminology they used to describe the actions that took place in the fight I found to be very realistic. I applaud them for using actual boxing terms such as “jabs” and “knockdowns” as opposed to some other articles I’ve seen about boxing that just uses words like “punches” or “swings”. It shows better understanding to your audience and more respect to the athletes and there craft.

The Origin of Basketball

Peach Baskets, a ripped up soccer ball, and a YMCA college professor created one of the largest sports in the world. In 1891, teacher James Naismith would use some materials around him and his brain to create the game of Basketball. Today, basketball is a regularly played game amongst boys and girls but little people know about its origins.  First off, let’s talk about the leaps and bounds the NBA (National Basketball Association) over its first fifty two seventy five years. When the NBA was first developed the rules were way different. There was no cross overs, windmill dunks, or flashy passes, instead a player would have to dribble with one hand, little defense was played on the perimeter, and there was no three point line. This caused low viewership as it was not the exciting, high paced, action filled game we know it as nowadays. After many league changes and listening to the fans the NBA has found the perfect mix of skill and entertainment to create one of the most productive sp

Blog I’m critiquing:   https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2023/2/25/23601425/nfl-offseason-free-agency-aaron-rodgers-chicago-bears-justin-fields-draft I thoroughly enjoyed the use of the word storylines when talking about football. One thing I love about sports is how sometimes it can seem almost written out like a movie the way that is unpredictable. The ability of trades, signings, retirements, conflict, money, etc. match up create a compelling, underlying overview of uncertainty and wisdom that’s incapsulates the fandom. This article reciprocates that emotion that us fans fell in love with its bold predictions for this upcoming off season.
